Prayer

As we read today, remind us of the brevity of life and the weight of eternity. Teach us to live wisely, not wasting our days in vain pursuits, but honoring You with every moment we’re given. Help us to find joy in Your gifts, courage to act despite uncertainty, and reverence to walk in obedience. May Your truth guide our hearts and shape our choices. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ecclesiastes 9

Death Comes to All

The Preacher reflects on the certainty of death for both the righteous and the wicked. In this life, time and chance happen to all—so while we live, we should enjoy God’s gifts gratefully.

Wisdom Better Than Folly

Though wisdom may not bring fame or lasting recognition, it is still better than strength. A poor man’s wisdom may save a city—even if he is forgotten.

Ecclesiastes 10

Foolishness and Its Consequences

The chapter warns that a little folly can ruin a person’s reputation. The behavior and speech of a fool are contrasted with the conduct of the wise.

Leadership and Work

Proverbs-like sayings highlight the value of wisdom in leadership, the dangers of laziness, and the benefit of working skillfully and at the right time.

Ecclesiastes 11

Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters

This section urges generosity and taking action without waiting for perfect conditions. Life is uncertain, but boldness and diligence are wise.

Remember Your Creator in Youth

Young people are encouraged to enjoy life, but also to remember God before old age and decline make it harder to respond to Him.

Ecclesiastes 12

The End of the Matter

The closing chapter poetically describes the aging process and coming death. In the end, the Preacher declares the ultimate purpose of life: Fear God and keep His commandments, for God will bring every deed into judgment.
