The Balanced Word – July 14th

Prayer

Lord, You are just and true in all Your ways. Help us to approach Your Word today with open hearts and clear minds. Let us see Your hand in history, Your call to repentance, and Your compassion for the brokenhearted. Shape us through Your truth, and lead us in the way everlasting. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The Old Testament – 1 Chronicles 16:37–18:17

David appoints leaders for worship, including Asaph and others, to minister before the Ark continually. The Ark remains in Jerusalem while the tabernacle remains in Gibeon. God gives David rest from his enemies. David desires to build a temple for the Lord, but God tells him that his son will build it instead. God makes a covenant with David, promising an everlasting kingdom through his line. David responds with deep humility and praise. In chapter 18, David begins to conquer surrounding nations and establish justice throughout Israel.

The New Testament – Romans 2:1–24

Paul warns against judging others while practicing the same sins. God’s kindness is meant to lead us to repentance. Both Jew and Gentile will be judged according to their deeds, and merely hearing the law is not enough—obedience matters. Paul teaches that God shows no favoritism and that even those without the law have a conscience that bears witness to God’s standards. Jewish identity is not enough if it lacks inward transformation and obedience.

The Book of Psalms – Psalm10:16–18

The psalmist affirms that the Lord is King forever and will bring justice to the afflicted. God hears the cries of the humble and defends the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere human power may no longer terrify.

The Book of Proverbs – Proverbs 19:8–9

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; understanding leads to prosperity. A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever breathes out lies will perish.
